Voices of Kawonu: November 2024

A Unique and Special Golf Experience in Greenville

DILLARD PRUITT

Meet Dillard Pruitt, a former PGA TOUR player and rules official who brings a wealth of golf experience to our Kawonu Golf Club community.

In his words, "When I first heard about Kawonu's development, I was immediately excited about the golf-only aspect. I love Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, and it’s based on the same concept. After seeing the site, I was impressed by the beauty of the land with its gentle rolling hills and five lakes. What really got my attention was the dramatic ravine at the back of the property. It reminds me of the iconic barrancas at Torrey Pines. With my background, I'm particularly interested in Andrew's from-scratch design at Kawonu. Having seen his work at East Lake and Oak Hill, I'm confident that Kawonu will offer a truly unique and special golf experience in the Greenville area.”

Young country club members expect more from their fees than access to a golf course. Scott Ferrell is an industry veteran who is helping lead the creation of Kawonu Golf Club outside Greenville, South Carolina. While they will feature golf only, Ferrell says the pressure to provide top-notch facilities away from the course is real and imminent. Aside from golf simulators that can be used as teaching bays — a must-have in the market these days — the amenity Ferrell is focused on is food and beverage, as, he says, "historically private clubs have had mediocre dining outlets.” Because Kawonu will have a mix of local and national members traveling from afar, Ferrell says they will make dining a primary focus of the experience.
